Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC has an adaptable AutoCorrect facility (see figure 2, below) with which you can add in your own common errors and corrections. From then on the common error will be automatically corrected.

Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC has the ability to monitor errors made by an individual User. The error log records errors the User makes, what they were replaced with, the kind of error made and the date it occurred. The use of the error log can help identify common mistakes and show how the spell check options can be tailored for maximum efficiency.

How to Spell Check

To check for spelling mistakes click on the Spell Checker button.

Any spelling errors will be highlighted within the word area. To generate suggestions for an error, simply click on an identified error and suggestions will be shown in the word list.

The spelling options can be adjusted to suit your individual needs. You can, for example, use Automatic Corrections. To access these click on the Spellings tab in the Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC Preferences Panel. (see figure 2 above)

The Spell Checker with Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC recognizes and adjusts to your spelling patterns, making it an effective tool in improving the standard of your work.

Commonly used word processors only check the spelling, and not if the correct word was used. Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC will check your document and highlight all homophones.

You can check homophones as you type, or check the entire document once typing is complete, by pressing the Homophone button. Homophones will be displayed in the colour of your choice.

Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC can help you gain confidence that you are using the correct word in your sentences, and so allow you to complete documents more accurately.

The Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC Dictionary will automatically provide all of the explanations for the given word, however we can also set the program to just list: nouns; verbs; adjectives or adverbs.

It is also possible to move back and forward between previous searches in the dictionary. To do this use the navigational buttons on the top left hand side of the screen.

The dictionary has become a standard tool to develop literacy. Having a talking dictionary makes this tool even more effective.

Given the level of importance given to the Internet in the modern world, it is vital that people of all abilities are able to access and utilise information contained online.

The Internet has become one of the most popular channels for completing tasks such as recruitment, communications and research. Through the use of this program every User is capable of taking advantage of all of the opportunities the Internet offers, by transferring the text to an audio format.

By providing text to speech within web pages Safari Reader makes this resource accessible to those who have previously found the internet difficult to navigate.

Within Daisy Reader it is possible to adjust the read back using the settings available in the speech options of Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC. In other words it is possible to have the book read by word, by sentence and by paragraph or set continuous reading.

There are many books available as a Daisy Book. By providing a Daisy Book reader, Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC enables Users to access these books with the additional support features such as colour highlighting.

How is this useful?

Being able to scan any document into the program helps those with literacy difficulties by transferring information into a format they are comfortable with.

This feature is of great assistance to those who suffer from literacy difficulties as they are able to decipher information that would have otherwise been inaccessible. The information is made accessible through the use of features such as dual colour highlighting and speech feedback.

The scanning feature can be used in any number of ways, for example to scan an article from a magazine or textbook into the program and download it to formats such as PDF or HTML. Once this is completed the document becomes accessible through the utilisation of other features of Read&Write GOLD FOR MAC such as the speech feedback option.
