Successful Computing for Disabled People CD-ROM - Key Information CD for the UK
‘CD with all the answers’
You can't escape computers. They are everywhere - from the public library to the coffee shop. But what happens if you can't see the screen or use a keyboard or mouse? There are many ways to improve access, but many providers don't know how.
Due to the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (SENDA), organisations are required to make “reasonable adjustments”. This includes recruitment, retention, goods, services and the provision of training and education. Understanding what this means when using IT can often appear to be a daunting prospect. Here, for the first time, is a comprehensive reference tool, aimed at demonstrating and explaining the technology available through video, audio and reference materials. To help demonstrate how alternative and adaptive technologies can help change the lives of people with disabilities, there are a number of video case studies included on the CD. Being able to see real people achieve with technology, helps us to better understand its value. The CD includes: Content suitable for the training of staff to better understand the legal aspects of computing and disability under the Disability Discrimination Act(DDA) and SENDA.
Video demonstrations and explanations of much of the equipment available today to assist with better access for people with disabilities.
A comprehensive collection of skill and fact sheets which can be printed and used as many times as required.
A comprehensive list of organisations which could be of further help. Video case studies – real people with disabilities, demonstrating real solutions.
This CD-ROM is itself compliant with the highest level of accessibility (W3C AAA).
